Notes: (1) Most common reasons for exclusion of articles are: no mention of NPCs, no mention of task-shifting, no mention of surgery, and merely describing the role of NPCs. (2) Some included articles mention multiple types of barriers per subcategory; hence, de-duplication of barriers to subcategories was performed; thereafter, subcategorized barriers were disaggregated by SSA country. (3) Subcategorized barriers mentioned per article were disaggregated per surgical discipline.
